The Need: For survivors of human trafficking, leaving an abusive situation is only the beginning of recovery.
Long term housing remains a significant gap in South Carolina, leaving many survivors without a safe and stable place to continue rebuilding their lives.
Long term recovery can also include case management, mental health care, education, employment support, healthcare access, and the stability needed to begin building a future.
For I AM VOICES, expanding access to long term recovery housing means continuing to build awareness, partnerships, and financial support around this important work.
A&O’s Role
As part of Anchor & Oak’s development support for I AM VOICES, our team works closely with the organization to strengthen fundraising efforts and communicate the importance of its mission.
An important part of that work is helping connect the immediate need with the broader resources, relationships, and investment required to support survivors over the long term.
Through thoughtful messaging and development support, A&O helps I AM VOICES communicate the need, the opportunity, and the ways donors, partners, and community stakeholders can become more deeply engaged in the work.
The Opportunity
In July 2026, a member of our team represented I AM VOICES in a Live 5 News story examining South Carolina’s shortage of long term recovery housing for trafficking survivors.
The coverage provided an opportunity to bring greater public attention to an important gap: emergency intervention is essential, and survivors also need safe housing and ongoing support as they continue rebuilding their lives.
The story also highlighted meaningful ways the community can become involved, including financial support, partnerships, and the potential use of available properties to expand long term recovery options.
The Result
The Live 5 feature brought greater public visibility to the need for long term survivor housing and gave I AM VOICES another platform to share both the urgency of the issue and its vision for expanding support.
It also created an opportunity for donors, partners, property owners, and community leaders to better understand the need and consider the role they may be able to play in moving the work forward.
For I AM VOICES, the coverage became another step in building awareness, relationships, and support around the long term goal of expanding recovery opportunities for survivors.
Why It Matters
Development is about more than asking for support. It is also about helping people understand the work, see what is possible, and recognize how they can become part of it.
For I AM VOICES, greater awareness around the housing gap supports a broader effort to build the funding, partnerships, and capacity needed to expand long term recovery opportunities for survivors.
For Anchor & Oak, this is one example of what managing the business of mission can look like in practice: connecting strategy, communication, relationships, and development support in ways that help an organization carry its work forward.
